Megan (Meg) Alderete
Place of Birth: Riverside, CA
Current residence: San Francisco, CA
Turned pro: 2016
Speciality: Hugs. Also, communication, positioning, reading the field, assists, and change of pace. Oh wait, that was soccer, but somehow, I think I'll strive for the same.
First bike: Blue Schwinn with a banana seat that my parents picked up at a garage sale. I got my second bike in second grade. It was a brand new fuschia 21 speed Giant Mtb in a small women's frame size so that I could grow into it. The day before I left home for college, my dad said, "wait, I have something for you!" He brought out my fuschia bike all fixed up with an added basket and bell. He said, "you have to take this to Stanford." I did! I was pranked (a lot!), particularly by the men's football and soccer teams who threw it up in the campus trees!
Interests outside of cycling: I love love love to cook (and eat!). Cooking is my creative outlet. I was that eleven year old who had to perfectly assemble her yogurt parfaits and toast so that they were beautiful before I ate them. Good thing Instagram did not exist back then!
Favorite race: The Amgen Tour of California.
2017 season goals: Build upon 2016 success, channel the finesse, experience and grit of my teammates, and dig deep for them.
Something you wish you would have been told as an amateur: Race. There's no time like now.
Guilty pleasure: Eating leftovers in the shower after a long, cold ride.
